Before the bridge, this island raised cattle.

In 1936 a great-grandson of the man who built the Brooklyn Bridge sailed a three-masted schooner to the north end of Skidaway Island and started breeding prize Angus cattle.

There are 151 fresh and saltwater lagoons at The Landings, and hardly a house on the island sits more than a couple hundred yards from one. About half hold largemouth bass and bream; the other half are brackish, with red drum and spotted sea trout.

Your Association dues cover more ground than most people realize — 91 miles of roads, seven gated entrances, two marinas, three RV storage lots, the nature trail, the dog park and the community garden.

Georgia exempts up to $65,000 per person of retirement income once you turn 65, and that includes pensions, dividends, interest and capital gains. Food and prescription drugs are exempt from sales tax too.
